Photography Tips
In order forme to provide you with the highest quality greeting, please consider these photo tips before placing your order. Although I try to make your photos look their best, there is only so much I can do!
Resolution
Set your camera to the highest resolution before taking your photos. I prefer a resolution of 300 dpi, but 270 dpi works well too. This is important so that your photos are not pixilated. A resolution of 72 dpi is not acceptable for printed invitations and will result in a poor quality photo on our greeting. Also, please be sure your photos are not blurry. We are unable to alter the resolution or fix blurry photos.
Backgrounds
Plain backgrounds work best to keep the focus of the photo on the subject. A solid color blanket or sheet placed on a chair works great in a pinch!
Lighting
The best photos are taken in natural lighting. If you cannot take photos outside, taking photos near a window works well too. Overcast skies are optimal for outdoor photos.
Clothing
Solid color clothing works best in photos-- the simpler, the better. When choosing photos for your greeting, keep in mind the color scheme-- the colors in the photo should work well with the colors used in the greeting.
Angle
If you’re shooting photos of a small child, get down on their level! Taking photos of a person or object straight on when you’re down at their level results in much better photos than aiming down or up at a person or object, which can cause image distortion.
If you are unsure as to whether your photos will work in your greeting, contact me ahead of time, or send me extra photos. We want your greeting to look perfect!
**When sending me your photos, attach them as a FILE instead of PHOTO if given the option. This will result in a larger sized file for higher quality.**
Prepare the Scene: Choose a brightly lit location and cover with a light colored blanket. A sofa works well! Dress your baby in light colored plain clothing and lay on blanket. Place hands close to face but not overlapping. Fill in any dark areas with light, especially around the face and hair.
Camera Tips: It is best to use a camera with a zoom lens. Stand back and zoom in on your baby. Please leave enough room around your baby for cropping. In the final image, your baby's head should be larger than the size of a quarter.
Digital Camera Tips: If using a digital camera, use the Highest Quality setting possible. When saving the photo to your computer choose a High Quality JPEG option. Our minimum image size is 800 x 1200 pixels.
